Memorial Wellness Weekly Newsletter   Parent/Teacher/Community June 6, 2021 Teaching Ourselves & Our Children to Celebrate Ourselves/Themselves Big or small, celebrations matter because they offer opportunities to recognize ourselves and others. We all need validation, it's also fun. Birthdays, graduations, weddings, family celebrations - we don't need much of a reason to be with the ones that we love. There are so many reasons to recognize the moments that are worthy of recognition. These moments can turn into habits of happiness and gratitude that in-turn hardwire virtues and values.  It's affirming to be acknowledged. When we celebrate each other (and ourselves) often, it builds esteem and social awareness. Celebrate!! It will make everyone smile.  Book of the Week: I AM ONE By: Susan Verde Read: 101 Things to Do in New England: The Ultimate New England Bucket List Empower Your Children with Affirmations Other interesting info:  Fine Motor Skills ...

Start by grounding yourself in the five senses or periodically taking 5 to clear your head and breathe.  Control your narrative, imagine yourself going on a train. Where is the train going? Are you getting on to enjoy the ride or just watching it as the negative intrusive thoughts take over your mind? Draw or write your fear, anxiety or worry. Imagine them as a character in a story. Once you gain some control over the character, you begin to change the story and the outcome.  Find some rituals and routines in controlling the agency of feelings and thoughts. They won't go away but you will have more control over how you navigate through the space they take up. Book of th...

Memorial Wellness Weekly Newsletter   Parent/Teacher/Community May 9, 2021 Character What is it? Is there a science behind fostering character in our children or ourselves? Character takes happiness to a new level. How we identify ourselves within the world around us or our community plays a huge role in our own happiness. The specific formula for our self worth looks differently for everyone. For some it is identifying our own strengths with those we admire. We often identify and align ourselves with our role models. It starts with awareness. Am I happy? Am I unhappy? Reframing our whys are a step forward in understanding our character. Helping and reaching out to others can be enriching in many ways, many may experience a "helpers high".  We need to get back to the "why" and shift our strength when we get stuck or things get hard. We will all have our ups and downs, we can't have a sunny personality all of the time.  We need to tell ourselves that "I...
