Memorial Wellness Weekly Newsletter   Parent/Teacher/Community December 28, 2020 Embracing our Extended Family How members of the community, friends (old and new), colleagues and our neighbors have played a huge part in finding happiness this year. When family from far away couldn't visit, we noticed extra smiles from our neighbors. When our regular date nights and dinners out came to a stope, we changed our gatherings to socially distanced outside BBQs and Zoom gatherings. We sent funny GIFs and resent old pictures to those we shared experiences with before we stayed home. We hugged our loved ones at home a little tighter in appreciation of the extra time that we've spend with them at home. Our identity and integrity depend on them. Model the behaviors, children learn first by observation. Awareness and self control can go a long way, children are intuitive. They sense stress or joy through watching body language and hearing the tone in our voices. Pay attention to the topics that can be confusing or stressful: money, illness, strains in relationships, gossip and other toxic behaviors. Social media is tricky, our children don't understand who is privileged to see our posts. Curb their exposure to your platforms. Expressing yourself and managing these boundaries are important. Choose someone who will respect y...

Here are a few ideas of how to connect and make the most of our energy:  Positive thoughts result in positive experiences. Positive feelings will reflect these experiences. Be open and willing to allow the positive moments to happen. Stay in the now and notice the small moments of positive energy as they connect us to each other through the experiences we share with ourselves and others. Try breathing with the whole body, visualization (water sources are great and energy inducers) and journaling feelings, thoughts and sources of gratitude. Join the Positivity Challenge!
