Our students have identity kits that activate internally. Their mindset
differs depending on who is giving the message and how something
is being said.
Choice words will shape the way we communicate effectively as parents
and educators, while shaping the identify of our students. Using terms
that empower and feed student's curiosity for knowledge will
lead to more effective learning, literacy, behavior and confidence.
Try using terms such as "tell me more", "what else" or "what if".
Reframing often evokes the possibility of choice, flexibility and agency.
Agency builds belonging and belonging fosters safety.
The AAP recommends the following (healthychildren.org):
Children 6 to 12 years of age should sleep 9 to 12 hours per 24 hours on a regular basis to promote optimal health.
Children 6 years and older need 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity on most days of the week (free play and organized sports focused on fun).
The AAP recommends that families create a Media Plan in order to address the multifaceted impacts that all kinds of media and screen time have on children.
